I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education from Westfield State College with a minor in music. I continue to take courses and workshops to keep my teaching skills current. I am licensed in Massachusetts to teach elementary (grades one through six) as well as special education (preschool through grade twelve). Over the last twenty-nine years, I have taught in a variety of settings: middle school substantially separate special education vocational program, preschool Title One, preschool integrated classroom, elementary resource/inclusion setting, educational team leader, private tutoring, Sunday school, playgroup, preschool co-op, and long-term substitute high school English teacher here at CCS.
I was raised in Needham, Massachusetts, but have spent the majority of my life in Westfield, Massachusetts. Lou and I have been married twenty-eight years and have two adult children. Peter is in college and Emily is a recent graduate. The Lord has blessed us with a close family and many close friends. Taking care of our parents is a large part of our life. Over the years, I have been involved in both children’s and women’s ministries. Singing in the worship choir is a joy. Over the years, the Lord has also called me overseas for short-term missions. My most recent trip was to Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya. Given time to myself, you can find me with a book or puttering in my flower garden.
Every child is created uniquely by God. I marvel at how each child has different gifts and strengths. I also have a heart for the hurting and challenged child. I believe in teaching each child in his own learning style whenever possible as well as providing ideas or tools to support that child in learning. I also believe that each child should become familiar with his own learning style so that he will be able to independently use those methods. In this way, a child will be able to access the curriculum more easily and will build confidence and have success while gradually growing into the unique and mature Christian that God desires.
Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
